You might say that Bob Ott and Ott Landscaping grew up together.
Bob first got his hands dirty as he helped his mother landscape their new house in Toms River. He was nine years old. At twelve, he started cutting some of the neighbors’ lawns, and by the age of seventeen he was handling 110 lawn maintenance accounts in a local retirement community. With the help of his mother’s borrowed credit card, Bob purchased two brand-new, self-driven lawnmowers from Sears. It was a proud day.
As customers’ needs increased, more services were offered: Bushes needed trimming, so hedge clippers were bought. Trees needed pruning, so a chainsaw was added. Fertilizers and seeds were in constant demand. It wasn’t long before Bob was well-known at the local garden center.
Bob received his college Associates’ degree, and was working towards a degree in Landscape Architecture when he was persuaded to do a four-year apprenticeship with a construction engineering union. While working as part of the crew that rebuilt the Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant and the crew that refueled the Salem Nuclear Power Plant in the early 80’s, Bob freelanced on the weekends, planting trees and shrubs for the same local garden center that sold him his first supplies. Those weekend planting jobs turned into his first formal landscape jobs.
Bob graduated his apprenticeship, and went straight back to what he has always loved and done best… landscaping. 39 years of hands on “jersey shore” landscape design and installation experience has given Robert Ott Landscaping a unique edge over the competition. Bob’s unique landscape designs have won numerous awards and have been featured in many magazines and newspaper articles. His crew leaders have been with him for an incredible amount of time considering the profession. Matt Hellow, 31 years, Danny Torsiello, 28 years, and James Strodel, 23 years. All are part of the Robert Ott Landscaping family, and all will treat you like family. That’s our motto….that’s our promise.
Happily married with three children, Bob resides in Manasquan while his business remains based in Toms River. Bob continues to estimate, design and supervise every job himself, and does all of the actual landscaping.
